There is a proposed 78-acre Novato sports complex
that could encompass eight baseball diamonds, two soccer fields, a small
stadium, a health club and an indoor sports complex in Hamilton
neighborhood where it would be built.
The Marin Sports Academy LLC of Kentfield has leased about 53 acres
of landfill from the U.S. Army and hopes to negotiate a lease for 25
acres of adjacent land from the city to build a sports complex in the
residential area in Southern Novato. The project would be roughly
bordered by Highway 101 to the southwest, Ammo Hill to the north and
Portsmouth Drive to the southeast.
Plans are still being drafted and the developers, who emphasized
their project is in the early stages, have not submitted any development
applications to the city of Novato.
The developers say the volume of traffic wouldn't be as great as
opponents fear, judicious use of the public address system could
minimize noise, advanced technology would eliminate lighting spillover
and any problems unearthed in the environmental review process would be
addressed.
The complex would accommodate local sports programs such as Little
League, youth soccer, baseball, rugby and lacrosse. Though they
caution that everything is tentative at this point, the developers
also hope to attract youth travel teams from other parts of
California and hold weekend tournaments for youth teams, as well as
offering facilities for national collegiate championships such as
swimming.These are ballparks that have games scheduled for
different times throughout the course of the day.
A public meeting will take place Nov. 14, possibly at the
Hamilton Community Center.
