Why Row 33 Works (and My Error)

If the wing structurally ends at Row 27, Row 33 is completely behind the wing.
My previous statement that it would block your downward view was wrong because
I was tracking a layout where the wing drifted much further back into the 30s.
If the trailing edge cuts clean at Row 27, Row 33 is actually situated 6 rows behind the wing.

What Your Actual View Will Be From Row 33:

bullet

Looking Straight Down: You will have a clear, unobstructed view of the ground.

bullet

Looking Forward: You will see the trailing edge of the wing and the wingtip extending outward ahead of you, but it will not be underneath your window blocking the earth.

bullet

The Engine Factor: Because you are a few rows behind the wing trailing edge,
you will be looking slightly past the jet engine exhaust.
At high altitudes, there can sometimes be a slight heat-haze/blur in the air from the engine exhaust when you look forward and
down, but the actual physical ground directly beneath your window will be visible.

The Legroom Verdict for Row 33

Since Row 33 is a standard economy row (not a bulkhead wall like Row 30):

  1. You get full under-seat storage in front of you.

  2. You can stretch your legs completely straight out beneath the seat frame of Row 32 to rest your heels.

CDG-SFO Boeing 777-300ER  Return Flight seat 51L

Rows 46 through 51 -- far enough behind the flaps to look straight down at the ground,
while keeping you far enough forward to avoid the tail-end cabin turbulence and bathroom line

https://seatmaps.com/airlines/af-air-france/boeing-777-300er/#217ffec3caf17a44bf340fc11d93e8ab

row 39 will give you a much better window view and noticeably less noise than row 52 on a Boeing 777-300ER.

Checking in online is still highly recommended even if you have a bag to drop off.
While you do still have to visit the airport counter, checking in online beforehand unlocks two major benefits that will save you time and stress:
  1. Access to Baggage Drop-Off Lanes: Most major airports have dedicated "Baggage Drop" (Drop-off) queues specifically for passengers who have already checked in online.
These lines generally move significantly faster than the standard, full-service check-in lines.
  2. Securing Your Seat Early: Air France opens online check-in 30 hours before departure (24 hours for flights to/from the US). Checking in the moment it opens ensures you secure your preferred seat and protects you in the rare event that a flight is overbooked.

What the Airport Process Looks Like

If you check in online, your steps at the airport are streamlined:
  1. Print Bag Tags: When you arrive, you can scan your digital or printed boarding pass at an Air France self-service kiosk to instantly print your luggage tags.
  2. Drop and Go: You attach the tags to your bags and bring them straight to the dedicated Baggage Drop desk or an automated baggage drop machine.
  3. Head to Security: Since you already have your boarding pass on your phone or printed, you bypass the main agent desks entirely.
To help you map out your airport timeline, which airport are you departing from, and what time is your flight?
SFO 8pm
For an 8:00 PM flight out of SFO, you should plan to arrive at the airport between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM.
Because Air France is an international flight, the absolute cut-off time to check your bags and finish check-in is strictly 60 minutes before departure (7:00 PM).
If you are not in line with your luggage tagged by then, they will not let you board. [1]
bulletWhere to Go: Air France operates out of the Dianne Feinstein International Terminal, Sector A (on Level 3, the Departures level). [2, 3]
bulletCounter Opening Time: The physical check-in desks and baggage drop lanes at SFO open exactly
3 hours before the flight (5:00 PM).
Arriving right around 5:00 PM gives you the smoothest experience before the lines build up. [1, 4]
bulletIf You Checked In Online: You can head straight to an Air France self-service kiosk in Terminal A to
scan your phone, print your bag tags, and then drop your luggage off at the dedicated Baggage Drop line. [3]
Once your bags are securely checked, you will head through Security Checkpoint A.
Evening international departures can draw crowds, but TSA wait times around 8:00 PM are generally reasonable.
If you have extra time and premium cabin status or eligible SkyTeam membership, the Air France-KLM Lounge is located right past security near Gate A1. [2, 5, 6]

    GARDEN FOUNTAINS

Yes, you can just show up at 9:00 AM to enter the gardens, but keep in mind that the fountains do not start running immediately at 9:00 AM.
Here is exactly how the timing works for your visit on Sunday, September 27, 2026:

    1. Garden Access vs. Fountain Timings

bullet 9:00 AM (Gardens & Groves Open): The gates to the gardens open, the background Baroque music starts playing, and the ticket windows open. "9:00 AM" on your ticket simply means you can enter the grounds from this time onward.
bullet 10:30 AM (Fountains Turn On): The actual water features do not run all day.
The morning water display (morning launch) begins at 10:30 AM and runs until 12:00 PM (noon).

    2. How to Plan Your 10:00 AM Palace Slot

Because your main palace ticket is for 10:00 AM, arriving at the gardens at 9:00 AM gives you a perfect 1-hour window to explore the peaceful, empty groves before the crowds arrive.
However, you will miss the morning fountain display if you are inside the Palace during that time.
    The Best Strategy:
    1. 9:00 AM: Arrive and enter the gardens to walk around the groves.
    2. 10:00 AM: Head to the main Palace entrance (Pavilion Dufour) for your timed entry slot. A standard tour of the Palace takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. (or in my case 3 hours) .
    3. 12:00 PM onwards: Head back into the gardens. The fountains turn on again for the afternoon launch from 2:00 PM to 4:15 PM (and a final session from 4:45 PM to 5:00 PM).
You will have plenty of time to catch the full "musical fountain" effect then!
(Note: Your ticket allows you to exit the Palace back into the gardens, but make sure to check gate reentry rules with staff if you plan to leave the main estate gates entirely).

    BIKING SCHEDULE

A  bike rental is the absolute best way to see the remaining 800 hectares of the Versailles estate. Because bicycles are strictly prohibited inside the formal geometric gardens (where the fountain show takes place), you will spend your afternoon exploring the massive Park and the Estate of Trianon.
I recommend a loop that lets you ride right alongside the water, visit Marie-Antoinette's private domain ( after leaving the bike outside the Trianon Estate). , and catch the afternoon fountain session after returning the bike.

The Ultimate 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM Cycling Route

    1. Cruising the Grand Canal (2:00 PM – 2:45 PM)

Head straight down to the Grand Canal, the massive cross-shaped body of water. [1]
bullet The Ride: Cycle all the way around the water
bullet Pro-Tip: Ride all the way to the far western tip of the canal. Most tourists walking from the palace never make it out here, so you’ll have wide-open paths and a stunning, distant perspective of the Palace of Versailles reflecting on the water. [2]

    2. The Estate of Trianon & The Queen's Hamlet (3:00 PM – 4:30 PM)

Lock your bike at the dedicated racks outside and enter the Estate of Trianon. (Note: Access to the inside of these buildings requires a Trianon ticket or Passport, but walking the surrounding park paths is open).
Tour the Grand Trianon Historical place museum Versailles, France
A gorgeous, pink-marble palace built for Louis XIV to escape the rigid etiquette of the main court.
    Petit Trianon
Walk over to Marie-Antoinette’s personal rustic getaway. The Hamlet is a fairytale-style mock alpine village complete with a working mill, thatched-roof cottages, and a small farm with animals. It feels completely disconnected from the gold and grandeur of the main palace.

    3. Catch the Afternoon Fountains (4:30 PM – 5:30 PM)

After  returning the bike, walk back up to the formal gardens for the afternoon water displays!
bullet 2:00 PM – 4:15 PM: The grand groves and main musical fountains turn back on for their afternoon launch.
bullet 5:20 PM – 5:30 PM (The Grand Finale):  the Neptune Fountain (located near the Grille de Neptune).

    4. Grounds close (6:30 PM – 7:00 PM)

    Tour Eiffel

bullet The Crucial Link: Do not use third-party platforms; use the official Eiffel Tower Online Box Office.
bullet Ticket Release Window: Online lift tickets are released exactly 60 days in advance. Ensure you choose the specific option marked "Lift ticket with access to the Summit" if you want to go all the way to the top floor. [1, 2, 3]
bullet Wednesday, September 30th, the sun sets in Paris at exactly 7:31 PM

To capture the transition from a twilight sunset to the very first night illumination and sparkle show from the summit, you should book an official entry time slot between 7:00 PM and 7:15 PM.

bullet 7:15 PM (Arrival & Security): OR 5:30 PM – 5:45 PM (Daylight Arrival):You then board the first elevator up to the 2nd-floor observation platform. [1]
bullet 7:31 PM (The Sunset): You are on the upper levels right as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a deep orange and purple twilight glow over the Seine River. [1]
bullet 7:40 PM (The Golden Glow): Automated twilight sensors trigger the tower’s internal lighting system. The entire iron structure instantly illuminates in its iconic, warm golden glow. [1, 2, 3, 4]
bullet 8:00 PM (The only 5 minutes Sparkle Show): at the very top of the summit, the clock hits the hour. For five minutes, 20,000 flash bulbs burst into life, making the entire monument sparkle like diamonds . [1, 2, 3]

💡 Two Crucial Rules for Booking This Slot

    bullet

    Summit capacity is tightly controlled

The summit is the most restricted part of the tower. Staff continuously monitor:
    bullet

crowd density elevator queues, weather conditions, safety limits

If the summit becomes too full, they stop letting people stay and begin clearing visitors downward.

    This happens often.

    🚫 2. Summit access is one‑way

You can’t go back up once you leave. If you descend to Level 2 for food, bathrooms, or shade, you cannot return to the summit without buying a new ticket.

    That alone prevents all‑day stays.

    🚫 3. Weather closures

    The summit closes temporarily for:
    bullet

    wind, storms, heat, elevator issues

When that happens, staff clear everyone out, regardless of ticket time.

🚫 4. No seating, no shade, no amenities

    The summit has:
    bullet

no café, no seating, no shelter, no restrooms

You’re exposed to sun, wind, and cold. Most people last 20–40 minutes before heading down voluntarily.

🚫 5. Staff actively encourage turnover

They don’t rush you, but they do:
    bullet

    remind visitors to keep moving

    bullet

prevent people from sitting or blocking areas

    bullet

ask loiterers to descend if crowds build

    It’s polite but firm.
    bullet🚫 6. Elevators are not free‑flow

The summit elevator is not continuously available. You often wait 10–20 minutes to go down, and staff batch groups. You can’t just wander around indefinitely.

    ==============

    1. ~60 day advance Tickets do NOT drop at 00:00 Paris time

Booking for September 30th became available at 4pm July 31st
    All SUMMIT times were available.
I got to the last page where all I had to do was confirm everything
    BUT got constant
     "
The website encountered an unexpected error. Try again later."

I tried booking the 2nd FLOOR ( not the SUMMIT) and  found a whole bunch of  timeslots were taken ( INCLUDING MINE 18:00 ) !!! I decided to make do with 2nd FLOOR 18:30 --- VERY ANNOYED . But still website ERROR.

2 hours later trying every 5 minutes and still no success !

Not till 7pm ( 3 hours later) did  I get  my 2nd Floor ticket !

Its now 9am on Sat 1st of August and there are no TimeSlots available for the SUMMIT 5:30 6:00 6:30 nor 7:00 but
most of the rest are available.  The 2nd Floor is similar except 6:30 is available !
Users on  https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187147-d188151-r1059498055-Eiffel_Tower-Paris_Ile_de_France.html   and forums like Reddit overwhelmingly agree that  the official ticket platform is a frustrating, glitch-ridden experience. It often suffers from severe server overloads, making it incredibly difficult to secure tickets when the 60-day booking window opens. [1]

Because the official booking process is so notorious, here are the most effective workarounds:
bullet Wait for the 14-Day Release: If you miss out on the initial batch of tickets, don't panic. A smaller, secondary batch of tickets is released exactly 14 days before MAYBE  your desired date on the Official Eiffel Tower Website.
bullet Book a Third-Party Tour: While more expensive, using a reputable tour company often bypasses the direct booking headache. Just be sure to read the details carefully, as the only thing "skip-the-line" tours actually skip is the ticket-purchase line; you will still have to wait for security and the elevators. [1]
bullet Go On-Site: If you are already in Paris, you can buy tickets for the stairs (up to the 2nd floor) in person at the monument's ticket offices.
bullet Tickets are available 60 days in advance for lifts and 40 days in advance for steps.  stair access are released 14 to 30 days in advance. 674 stairs to reach the 2nd floor typically takes about 30 to 45 minutes
bullet in peak season when the lift lines between the 2nd floor and summit would be jam-packed. The 2nd floor was cheaper, quieter and quicker. In our opinion, the summit isn’t worth the money and time lost.

There is no midnight release. Checking at 00:00, 01:00, 06:00, etc. will show no change.

    2. New slots appear in batches

    The system quietly releases inventory:
    bulletsometimes early morning
    bulletsometimes mid‑day
    bulletsometimes late afternoon
    bulletsometimes in multiple small waves
bulletsometimes not exactly at 60 days — occasionally 59 or 58 days

There is no official or consistent release hour.

    3. The release time varies day‑to‑day

This is intentional. It prevents bots from sniping all summit tickets.

    4. Summit tickets often appear later than lower‑level tickets

    You may see:
    bullet2nd‑floor tickets at 60 days
bullet Summit tickets at 59–58 days
    bulletAdditional summit batches even later

🕒 For SUMMIT when should you check?

bulletParis morning (08:00–11:00 CET) -- midnight to 3am
    Paris afternoon (13:00–17:00 CET) -- 5am to 7am
    Paris evening (19:00–22:00 CET) -- 11am to 2pm

This covers the typical release waves.

The 60-Day Clock: Because you are visiting on September 30th, tickets for this specific date will open around August 1st on the Official Eiffel Tower Ticket Portal  ).

sunset slots sell out within hours of release. Time Slots are every half hour.

Pick the "Lift to Summit" Tier

The summit stairwell is open (only when staff choose to open it) for public descent, but only in a very limited way

    bulletlocked access doors
staff stationed near the elevator lobby
    restricted entry points
    no signage inviting public use
no way to re-enter the summit once you descend

Even if you tried to “camp” near the stairwell, staff would redirect you.

If you book 6:00 PM, the chance of being asked to leave the summit before the 7:31 PM sunset is extremely low.

Once you reach the summit, you can usually stay 20–40 minutes without any staff intervention.
If it’s not crowded, people often stay 45–60 minutes.

A 6:00 PM ticket gets you to the summit around:

    bullet 6:20–6:40 PM (typical)
    bullet 6:45 PM (slow day)
bullet 6:50 PM (rare heavy congestion)

That means you’d be up there 40–70 minutes before sunset. That is well within the normal stay window.

    bullet deep gold: 7:10–7:25 PM

    Louvre

On Thursdays, the Louvre Museum closes at 6:00 PM. Because you have an 11:00 AM entry timeslot. [1]
Staff begin clearing the galleries 30 minutes before closing (at 5:30 PM), so you have a solid 6.5 hours of active viewing time . This is more than enough time to bypass the crowded portrait rooms and completely immerse yourself in the landscape and sculpture collections. [1, 2]

Where to Find Landscapes & Sculptures

To avoid portraits (like the Mona Lisa) and maximize your time, you should focus your visit on the Richelieu Wing and specific levels of the Sully and Denon Wings. [1, 2]
    1. The Sculpture Courtyards (Richelieu Wing, Ground Floor / Level 0)
This is the ultimate destination for sculpture lovers. The Richelieu wing features two massive, breath-taking glass-covered courtyards filled with natural light: [1]
bullet Cour Marly: Houses masterfully carved 17th and 18th-century French marble statues, including the famous, powerful Marly Horses.
bullet Cour Puget: Features monumental outdoor bronze and marble sculptures from the 17th through 19th centuries.
bullet Don't Miss Nearby: Right next to these courtyards on the same floor, you can view the haunting, medieval Tomb of Philippe Pot, featuring eight life-sized hooded "weepers" carved from stone. [1]
    2. Northern European Landscapes (Richelieu Wing, Level 2)
To see landscapes instead of heavy court portraits, bypass the French and Italian master wings and head straight to the top floor of the Richelieu wing. [1]
bullet Dutch & Flemish Masters: This area holds a phenomenal collection of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish paintings. These artists pioneered landscape painting as an independent genre. [1, 2]
bullet Look out for the sweeping panoramic landscapes, stormy seascapes, and quiet windmills painted by masters like Jacob van Ruisdael and Jan van Goyen.
    3. Classical Antiquity Sculptures (Sully & Denon Wings, Ground Floor / Level 0)
If your taste in sculpture includes ancient Greek, Roman, and Italian Renaissance classics, explore the ground levels of the other two wings: [1, 2]
bullet Sully Wing (Level 0): This is where you will find the iconic Venus de Milo surrounded by classical Greek antiquities. [1, 2]
bullet Denon Wing (Level 0): Skip the upper floors (where the portrait galleries are) and stay on the ground level to view powerful Italian Renaissance sculptures, including Michelangelo’s raw, emotive Dying Slave and Rebellious Slave. [1]
bullet The Daru Staircase: As you transition between sections, you'll naturally encounter the magnificent Winged Victory of Samothrace standing triumphantly at the top of the grand staircase. [1]
A Smart Strategy for Your Visit
bullet Enter through the Carrousel: Since you are aiming for the Richelieu wing first, the 99 rue de Rivoli (Carrousel) entrance you asked about earlier is perfect. It leads you right toward the Richelieu side checkpoints.
bullet Grab a Physical Map: Pick up a free map at the information desk beneath the main pyramid after security.
The wings are color-coded, making it very easy to spot the "Sculptures" sections (usually coded in yellow) and "Paintings" (coded in red).

    Walking Sequence

Here is the quickest, most efficient walking sequence starting from the Carrousel entrance to see the sculptures first, followed by the landscapes, while completely avoiding the portrait galleries.

Step 1: Pass Security & Enter the Richelieu Wing (Level -1)

    1. After entering via 99 rue de Rivoli and clearing the Carrousel security checkpoint, walk past the Inverted Pyramid into the central reception area.
    2. Turn immediately toward the Richelieu Wing entrance gates. Scan your Paris Museum Pass and timed entry slot here.
    3. Once inside, you are automatically on the  (Level -1 100-106)  .
Walk straight ahead into the stunning, glass-roofed Cour Marly to see the 17th/18th-century French marble masterpieces (Marly Horses).
    4. Walk directly through the connecting passage into the adjacent courtyard, Cour Puget, to see the monumental bronze works.
    5. First Stop: Instead of heading up any stairs first, you will walk straight ahead directly into Room 102 / Cour Marly to see the Marly Horses. [1]
    6. Cross over to Denon (Level -1): Instead of heading upstairs right away, follow the lower-level corridors straight across to the Denon Wing, entering Rooms 160–187. This lets you walk among ancient Roman sarcophagi, marble busts, and classical figures in a much quieter setting.
    7. Head Up to Level 0: Once you exit Room 187,
    8. Continuing the Path: From there, you can walk through Cour Puget (which also spans Level -1) before take the stairs up one level to Level 0 (Room 403). That will place you directly at Michelangelo’s Slaves and the Venus de Milo, keeping your entire morning dedicated strictly to world-class sculptures. [1, 2]

    Step 2: Transition to Antiquities & Michelangelo ( Level 0 200-236)

To maximize your time on this floor, do a quick loop into the other wings before heading upstairs:
    1. From Cour Puget, follow the signs toward the Sully Wing (Level 0) 300-348 to view the ancient Greek masterpiece, the Venus de Milo.
    2. Continue walking forward straight into the Denon Wing (Level 0) 400-433 to see Michelangelo’s famous Italian Renaissance sculptures, the Dying Slave and Rebellious Slave.

Step 3: Head Up to the Winged Victory (Level 1 Interlude)

    1. From the Michelangelo gallery, follow the signs for the Daru Staircase.
    2. Walk up the grand stairs. At the top, you will face the spectacular ancient Greek sculpture, the Winged Victory of Samothrace.
    3. Crucial Portrait Bypass: Do not turn right into the red-walled galleries behind her (that is where the Mona Lisa and major portrait rooms are).
Instead, use the corridors to loop back across into the Richelieu Wing.

Step 4: Take the Escalators to the Landscapes (Richelieu Wing, Level 2)

    1. Once back in the Richelieu Wing, look for the central bank of escalators or elevators.
    2. Take them all the way up to Level 2 (the top floor).
    3. Walk directly into the Dutch and Flemish Painting Galleries.
This entire wing is filled with quiet, sweeping 17th-century panoramic landscapes, marine views, and windmills by Jacob van Ruisdael and Jan van Goyen—entirely free of large court portraits.
You can download and print the high-resolution maps straight from the Official Louvre Museum Map Portal.
The primary map you need is the Official Louvre Museum English Map Guide PDF.
It is color-coded exactly to the sequence below, making it incredibly simple to print out and trace your customized route.

     Louvre dining options

Because your sequence centers around the Richelieu Wing, you are perfectly aligned for the museum's best indoor dining options without ever leaving your route or crossing into crowded zones.

bullet ☕ The Premium Stop: Café Richelieu
bullet Where it is: On Level 1 of the Richelieu Wing.
bullet The Vibe: This stunning café sits inside the historical, former offices of the French Minister of Finance. It serves signature French pastries by world-renowned chefs alongside great club sandwiches.
If you snag a window seat, you get an unparalleled indoor view looking directly down onto the Glass Pyramid.
bullet When to visit: Stop here right after you finish viewing the ground floor sculptures (Step 2) before taking the elevators up to the top-floor landscape painting galleries. Note that it closes at 4:45 PM on Thursdays.
bullet 🍔 The Quick Fix: Cafés de la Pyramide
bullet Where it is: Located on the lower level (Level -1) directly at the foot of the Richelieu Wing entrance gates.
bullet The Vibe: A casual food court setting perfect for grabbing quick, uncomplicated fuel like paninis, salads, burgers, and coffees if you want to save your budget for dinner.
When you print out your layout, use a highlighter to draw the following continuous path across your pages:
    1. Level -1 (Under the Pyramid): Start at the Carrousel entrance, pass security, walk into the main open atrium (Hall Napoléon), and head straight through the Richelieu Wing gates.
    2. Level 0 (Ground Floor - Yellow Sections): Draw a line straight into Cour Marly, weave into Cour Puget, then trace a line downward into the Sully Wing for the Venus de Milo and into Denon for Michelangelo's Slaves.
    3. Level 1 (First Floor): Follow the line up the grand Daru Staircase to greet the Winged Victory of Samothrace. Walk straight back into the Richelieu Wing toward Café Richelieu for your coffee break.
    4. Level 2 (Top Floor - Red Sections): Take the escalators straight up to the absolute top floor of the Richelieu Wing and finish your line circling the Dutch and Flemish landscape rooms.

    River Cruise

Walk 15 minutes to the tip of Île de la Cité (Square du Vert-Galant) and board a sunset Vedettes du Pont Neuf River Cruise.
It glides past the Louvre and Notre-Dame right as the city lights turn on.

    ACCESS THE INTERNET EVERYWHERE

XFINITY TRAVEL PASS $10/day which is what I opted for . I really wanted my tablet to get WIFI outside of my home but with the  "Organic Maps" + overlay I had everything I needed to get around offline. I used the phone's $10/day Xfinity Travel Pass for translating and communicating with my host via WhatAp .

how do i enable GLOBAL ROAMING ? and do I need to ?
Yes, you absolutely need to enable it, both on your account and on your phone itself. [1]
If you do not enable global roaming, your phone will show "No Service" or refuse to connect to mobile internet the moment you cross the US border.
Think of it as two separate "switches" that both must be turned on: one at the network level (
Xfinity) and one on your physical device (Samsung). [1, 2, 3]
Here is exactly how to do both.
Step 1: Enable Roaming on Your Xfinity Account (Network Level)
How you do this depends on what plan you have:
bullet If you are on an older plan (using the $10/day Pass): When you add the Global Travel Pass to your line via the app or website, Xfinity automatically flips the network switch for you. [1]
bullet If you are on Mobile Select, Plus, or Premium (Free Data Included): Log into your Xfinity Mobile Account, go to the Activity tab, click on International Travel, and ensure that international data roaming is toggled ON for your phone line. (If it's greyed out or won't let you, you may need to quickly text or chat with an Xfinity agent to remove the restriction). [1, 2]
Step 2: Enable Roaming on Your Samsung A53 (Device Level)
Once Xfinity clears your line for travel, you must tell your Samsung Galaxy A53 that it is allowed to use foreign towers: [1]
    1. Open your phone's Settings app (the gear icon).
    2. Tap Connections.
    3. Tap Mobile networks.
    4. Toggle Data roaming to ON. [1]
(Note: If the switch is greyed out, make sure "Mobile Data" is turned on first under Settings > Connections > Data usage). [1]
    A Quick Warning on Timing
It is highly recommended to do both of these steps while you are still in the United States.
    Trying to log into the
Xfinity app or change network settings over slow airport Wi-Fi after you've already landed abroad can be incredibly frustrating.
You will not be charged anything just for turning these toggles on early; charges or plan tracking only trigger once your phone touches a foreign cellular network
    . [1, 2]
Are you currently still in the US, or have you already arrived at your destination? (I can provide troubleshooting steps if your phone is already showing "No Service").

BUY DEVICE to recieve mobile data and transmit to my tablet via WIFI

how can I get cheap data in Paris with an old sim card phone samsung android a53. Whilst keep using the A53 for calls from USA.

To get cheap data in Paris while continuing to receive text messages and voice calls from USA

I will just use the phone for phone calls . The Samsung A9 tablet is what I will recieve WIFI on. Is there some problemt with the alcatel needing unlocked ? I beleive it may be impossible to unlock it?

Even if you successfully unlock the device, the US version of the Alcatel LinkZone 2 has a major hardware limitation when taken to Europe.
Mobile networks operate on different radio frequencies (Bands). The US LinkZone 2 is built specifically with North American antennas: [1, 2, 3, 4]
    bullet US LinkZone 2 Hardware Bands: LTE Bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 25, 26, 41, 66, and 71.
bullet France/Europe Network Bands: Europe relies almost entirely on LTE Bands 1, 3, 7, 20, and 28 for their data infrastructure. [1, 2]
The conflict: The US LinkZone 2 does not possess the physical hardware antennas to broadcast on Europe's core 4G LTE frequencies. If you put an unlocked French SIM inside a US LinkZone 2 in Paris, it will either get extremely slow, ancient 3G speeds or no signal at all because it cannot find its native US frequencies. [1, 2, 3]

    The Easiest Alternative Path

Instead of fighting with a US hotspot that won't have the right antennas, you have two highly reliable options:
bullet Rent a "Pocket Wi-Fi" device at the Paris Airport: Companies like HippocketWifi let you reserve a pocket router online.
You pick it up at Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport or your hotel. It is pre-loaded with an unlimited, fast French data SIM and is perfectly tuned to European network bands.
bullet Buy a European Hotspot: If you prefer owning one, you can buy a cheap, unlocked mobile hotspot directly on Amazon France or at a French electronics store like FNAC or Boulanger when you land. A basic TP-Link or Huawei pocket router costs around €40–€50, comes completely unlocked out of the box, and will perfectly handle a cheap €20 Free Mobile SIM card.
Would you prefer to look into renting a local French pocket Wi-Fi router for your trip dates, or would you like to see if your US mobile phone provider offers a cheap data add-on for your phone to bypass the hotspot altogether?

which one of these on the amazon france https://www.amazon.fr/s?k=mobile+hotspot&crid=3SUQ4OW7UK6E2&sprefix=mobile+hotspot%2Caps%2C241&ref=nb_sb_noss_1  should I buy ? And can I buy the sim card too here ? and have it on me when I arrive ?

When browsing your Amazon France search link, you want to avoid complex settings and look for something labeled "Désimlocké" (Unlocked) and "Routeur 4G Mobile / Pocket WiFi". [1, 2]

    1. Which Hotspot to Buy?

From your search results, you want to focus on well-known, reliable brands that build European-compatible antennas directly into the hardware. Look specifically for these options on the page:
bullet The Budget Pick (TP-Link M7000 or M7200): If you see a TP-Link mobile router on that page (usually priced around €40–€50), grab it. It is entirely unlocked, highly reliable, has a simple phone app to track data, and natively supports European network bands (Bands 1, 3, 7, 20).
bullet The Performance Pick (Huawei E5576 or ZTE): Huawei and ZTE pocket routers are dominant in Europe. If you spot a "Huawei E5576 Unlocked" or "ZTE 4G Mobile Hotspot" listed, it is a perfect plug-and-play choice for Paris. [1, 2]
bullet Avoid: Any unbranded, ultra-cheap generic USB "dongles" (the ones that look like flash drives with an antenna). They often have weak range and require complicated web menus to change network settings. [1]

    2. Can You Buy the SIM Card on Amazon France too?

Yes, but it is highly recommended that you DO NOT buy it ahead of time on Amazon. Here is why:
bullet The European Law Issue: France has strict anti-terrorism laws requiring all mobile SIM cards to be officially tied to a verified passport or ID.
bullet The Amazon France Caveat: The SIM cards sold directly on Amazon.fr  are mostly low-data IoT cards (for security cameras) or overpriced tourist roaming SIMs with hidden activation steps. [1, 2]

💡 The Perfect "Zero-Stress" Plan For Arrival

Instead of buying a sketchy SIM online, use this foolproof strategy to get maximum cheap data the second you land:
    1. Buy the empty, unlocked Hotspot on Amazon France now and have it shipped directly to your home in the US (if they allow international shipping on that specific item) or have it shipped straight to your hotel/Airbnb in Paris so it's waiting at the front desk when you check in.
    2. Get your SIM card instantly at the Paris Airport or a street kiosk:
      1. At the airport (CDG/ORY): Walk up to a Relay convenience store kiosk (located in almost every terminal).
        Ask for an
"Orange Holiday SIM" or a "Bouygues Telecom Tourist SIM."
        They cost around
€40, give you 30GB to 100GB of blazing-fast data, come completely pre-activated, and the clerk will scan your passport on the spot.
      2. In Paris City Center (Cheapest): Walk up to a bright red automated vending machine inside a Free Mobile boutique (there is a massive one near the Louvre/Châtelet).
Touch the screen, select English, scan your passport, pay
€20, and the machine instantly spits out a physical SIM card packed with
        over 150GB of data.
      3. Forum des Halles shopping center -Walk into FNAC first, buy a generic, network-unlocked TP-Link portable pocket MiFi router off the shelf for around €40.
Then, walk right next door to the Free Mobile shop, grab your €20 SIM card from the automated kiosk, and pop it right in
    3. Pop it in: Drop that fresh French SIM card straight into your new Amazon hotspot, turn it on, and your A9 tablet and phone will have fast Wi-Fi instantly!
Would you like me to check if a specific hotel address or neighborhood in Paris has a Free Mobile machine or electronics store nearby for an easy pitstop?

I'm arriving at CDG Terminal 2E -- where' the nearest SIM shop ?

When you land at Terminal 2E, you have two main spots to grab a physical tourist SIM card right inside the terminal building. [1, 2]
Because French mobile networks (like Orange and Bouygues) do not operate official standalone carrier storefronts in the arrivals terminal, you will be buying from certified airport retailers. [1]
The closest options from your arrival gate are:
    1. The Baggage Claim Area (Most Convenient)
bullet The Shop: Orange Boutique / Kiosk
bullet Location: Located right inside the Terminal 2E Baggage Claim area, explicitly positioned directly across from Baggage Carousel 32.
bullet What they sell: The Orange Holiday SIM.
bullet Why it's great: Because it's located right where you wait for your bags, the agents here are highly accustomed to tourists.
If they aren't completely slammed, they will physically install the physical SIM card into your new hotspot, boot it up, and make sure it works before you even clear customs
    .
    [1, 2, 3, 4]
    2. The Public Arrivals Hall (Just Past Customs)
bullet The Shop: Relay convenience store. [1]
bullet Location: Terminal 2E, Level 0 (Arrivals Hall), located in the public area before security checks (meaning just after you exit the sliding glass doors of the baggage customs area). [1]
bullet What they sell: They stock pre-packaged tourist SIM packs from Bouygues Telecom (highly recommended for hotspots) and SFR. [1, 2]
bullet Why it's great: It is a massive, bright red and white convenience store that is impossible to miss. The packaging clearly outlines how many gigabytes of data are included. [1, 2, 3]
    💡 Tips for the Counter
bullet Bring your Passport: By French law, the cashier at either the Orange kiosk or the Relay store must scan your physical US passport to register and activate the cellular data line. []
bullet Bring a Paperclip: Pop a paperclip or a SIM ejector tool into your travel wallet. While the hotspot or clerk might have one, having your own guarantees you can open the hotspot's SIM tray right at the airport counter. [1]
Do you happen to know what time your flight lands? Some of these airport kiosks close around 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM, so I can verify if they will be open when you clear customs. [1, 2

I'll be there for 10 days and will not be watching video via the french SIM. Just using Google Earth and maps mostly. How much MBs will I use ?

For a 10-day trip focusing mostly on Google Maps and Google Earth without any video streaming, you will likely use between 1.5 GB and 3 GB of data (roughly 1,500 to 3,000 MB) across both your phone and tablet. [1]
While standard map navigation is incredibly light on data, Google Earth and Satellite views are significant data hogs. [1, 2, 3]
Here is exactly how that breaks down by app so you can budget your usage:
    1. Google Maps (Standard View)
bullet Usage: ~5 MB to 10 MB per hour.
bullet Why it's low: The standard vector map layer just downloads simple lines and text labels. You could leave standard navigation running for 10 hours straight and barely use 50 MB to 100 MB. [, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
    2. Google Earth & Satellite/Street View
bullet Usage: ~20 MB to 100+ MB per hour.
bullet Why it's high: Every time you zoom in, spin, or look at a 3D building, your hotspot has to download large, high-resolution photographic images. Zooming around Paris in Google Earth like a game can eat through data 10 to 20 times faster than standard map lines. [1, 2, 3, 4]
    3. Background Data (The Hidden Consumer)
bullet Usage: ~50 MB to 100 MB per day.
bullet Why it happens: Because your phone and tablet think they are connected to a "Home Wi-Fi" network (hotspot), they might automatically try to sync your emails, update your apps in the background, or back up photos you take to Google Photos or iCloud.
💡 3 Simple Ways to Keep It Under 1.5 GB
To make sure you don't burn through a data plan quickly, tweak these settings before leaving the airport terminal:
bullet Download Paris Offline: Inside the Google Maps app on your tablet and phone, tap your profile picture, select "Offline Maps," and download the map of Paris. This downloads the entire city grid (~150 MB) to your device storage.
When you are out exploring, your map will look up locations instantly without pulling a single byte from your hotspot
    .
    [1, 2, 3, 4]
bullet Switch to "Low Data Mode" on Wi-Fi: On your A9 Tablet and A53 phone, go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi, tap the gear icon next to your hotspot network, and toggle on "Treat as metered" or "Low Data Mode."
This tricks your devices into treating the hotspot like mobile data, stopping automatic app updates and heavy cloud syncing.
bullet Stick to Standard View when walking: Keep Google Maps on the basic default layer while navigating streets, and only flip to Satellite mode or open Google Earth when you really need the visual context. [, 2]
Given that the tourist SIM cards sold at Terminal 2E (like the Orange or Bouygues packs) usually come with at least 30 GB to 100 GB of data for around €40, you will have vastly more data than you actually need for your 10 days!
Would you like to know the current data limits and prices for the tourist SIM cards available at the airport so you can pick the absolute cheapest one?

    =========

The tourist SIM card options available directly at Terminal 2E are massive data packages designed for travelers.
Because your 10-day trip using mostly maps only requires about
1.5 GB to 3 GB, these plans are a bit of an overkill on data volume, but they are the only physical tourist packages sold right inside the terminal.
The most common options at the Orange kiosk and the Relay convenience store inside Terminal 2E include:
    1. Bouygues Telecom "My European SIM" (Available at Relay)
    bullet Price: ~€30
bullet What you get: 30 GB of 4G/LTE data valid for 30 days, plus unlimited calls/texts within Europe.
bullet Why it's my top pick for you: It is the cheapest physical tourist card available at the airport.
It gives you ten times the data you actually need, meaning you can look at Google Earth satellite 3D views as much as you want without a single worry.
    [1, 2]
    2. Orange Holiday Europe SIM (Available at the Orange Kiosk)
bullet Price: ~$30 to $50 (depending on the exact daily terminal promotion).
bullet What you get: Typically 20 GB to 50 GB of data valid for 14 days, along with European talk time and text messages.
bullet Why choose it: The network coverage on Orange is widely considered the absolute fastest and most bulletproof in France.
If you are at Baggage Carousel 32 and see the kiosk lines are short,
paying a small premium for them to configure your hotspot on the spot is incredibly convenient. [1, 2, 3]

    💡 Alternative: The Ultra-Budget Path (€20 for 150GB+)
If you want to save money and bypass the airport premium entirely, do not buy a SIM at the airport.
Instead, take your empty hotspot into the city center on your first day and walk into a
Free Mobile boutique. Use one of their red automated touch-screen kiosks to buy an instant physical SIM card
. It costs €20, gives you roughly 150 GB to 250 GB of data, and is the absolute cheapest price per GB in France. [1, 2]
If you want to check your route ahead of time, let me know where you are staying in Paris (neighborhood or hotel name), and I can tell you where the nearest Free Mobile kiosk or electronics shop is.

Buy the SIM card on the  way to the LOUVRE at the Forum des Halles shopping center

Turn it off during indoor stops: When you sit down for a long lunch or go inside a museum (like the Louvre), turn the pocket hotspot off. Use the museum's free indoor Wi-Fi instead to preserve your portable device's charge.
