A strong storm system swept across the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas, knocking out power to thousands of homes and businesses. One person died when gusty winds knocked a tree into a home in Lagunitas, in Marin County. Numerous roadways were closed after the blustery winds swept debris onto them. Property damage is estimated at over $1 million including both commercial and residential structures.

A storm system moved across the Pacific Northwest trailing a mainly dry cold front across Northern and Central California.
COASTAL NORTH BAY INCLUDING POINT REYES NATIONAL SEASHORE (ZONE) 3/22/2009 1100 Strong Wind 43 0 0 $2,000 EG Newspaper Strong winds caused an estimated 100 foot tall, five foot diameter based pine tree to fall onto power lines at the junction of Shoreline Highway and Panoramic Highway around 11:10 a.m. PDT. The intersection was closed for five hours as crews removed the debris. The seven customers who lost power had it restored by 6:30 p.m. PDT. A storm from the Northern Pacific Ocean brought strong winds to the Central Coast of California.
NORTH BAY INTERIOR VALLEYS (ZONE) 4/14/2009 1445 Strong Wind 45 0 0 $120,000 EG Newspaper A tree fell into a power line on Pine Street in Novato causing a small fire and knocking out power along the street. In Healdsburg, strong wind brought trees down into power lines knocking out power to downtown for about an hour. Downed trees also caused damage, started small fires and produced power outages in Santa Rosa. Over 5,000 customers lost power during this storm and a recently restored home on Belmont Court was damaged as a large Douglas Fir tree crashed onto it. On Hearn Avenue and on Montgomery Drive two cars were damaged as trees fell onto them. A mainly dry Pacific storm produced damaging wind to the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas. Widespread power outages, downed power lines and trees, boats broken loose from there moorings, and even a big-rig forced onto its side were casualties of this powerful system.  Over 55,000 customers lost power during this storm.

A mainly dry Pacific storm produced damaging wind to the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas. Widespread power outages, downed power lines and trees, boats broken loose from there moorings, and even a big-rig forced onto its side were casualties of this powerful system.  Over 55,000 customers lost power during this storm.
NORTH BAY INTERIOR VALLEYS (ZONE) 11/28/2009 400 Strong Wind 43 0 0 $85,000 EG Newspaper Strong winds brought trees and tree branches down onto vehicles, into streets and onto power lines causing damage across the city of Napa. Down power lines sparked a vehicle fire near Jordan Lane and Lincoln Avenue and an entertainment center on the front porch of a home on the 100 block of Reed Circle caught fire. A Washington Pine tree sheared off and landed in a swimming pool. A low pressure trough moved south along the west coast of California causing damaging winds in portions of the state's northern and central coast on Saturday. Over 180,000 customers lost power.
NORTH BAY INTERIOR VALLEYS (ZONE) 11/1/2011 2200 Strong Wind 43 0 0 $17,000 EG Newspaper In Calistoga, CA emergency officials responded to nine calls between 2200 and 2300PST for wind damage. Damage included fallen trees, large tree limbs, and a metal awning ripped from a home in Chateau Calistoga Mobile Home Park. Strong winds during the evening of November 1, 2011 cut power, downed trees, and damaged a mobile home in Calistoga, CA.

Wind damage occurred from November 30, 2011 through December 2, 2011.

COASTAL NORTH BAY INCLUDING POINT REYES NATIONAL SEASHORE (ZONE) 4/8/2013 200 Strong Wind 48 0 0 $7,500 EG Newspaper Strong wind gusts tore off part of a roof of a small building at Masons Marina on Westshore Road at Bodega Bay. The roof fell onto a propane tank which broke a valve on the tanks and caused a gas leak. Strong and gusty northwest winds impacted much of the Bay Area resulting in downed trees, downed power lines, rough seas and even broken windows. A weak cold front moved through the Bay Area during the overnight hours of April 8th.  As the cold front exited quickly to the south and east of the Bay Area high pressure began to build over the Pacific Northwest and Northern California. As a result, the northerly pressure gradient increased rapidly during the early morning hours of April 8th. ||The rather strong northerly pressure gradient helped to produce widespread wind gusts in excess of 35 mph with a few locations over 60 mph. Numerous reports of downed trees and power lines were received as a result of the strong winds. The strong winds also impacted KSFO airport and a Airport Weather Warning (AWW) was issued for gusts up to 40 kts. The last major wind event to impact the Bay Area was January 4th, 2008 where 100 mph gusts were reported.||Over the coastal waters the strong winds helped to produce hazardous conditions with steep wind waves and confused seas. Gale Warnings were in effect for much of the coastal waters including San Francisco Bay. Buoy observations indicated many locations were near storm force conditions with several gusts up to 47 kts. Buoy 26, east of the Farallon Islands, reported one hour of storm force conditions with a gust up to 49 kts. The strong winds and fresh swell also resulted in combined seas up to 20 feet, as noted by the Half Moon Bay Buoy (Buoy 12).

NORTH BAY MOUNTAINS (ZONE) 5/1/2013 5 Strong Wind 48 0 0 $50,000 EG Newspaper Near Angwin, strong winds caused a tree branch to fall that struck a power line and started a fire. The fire burned the tree and the roof of a 5000 square foot barn. The fire burned half an acre and damaged the barn. Late on April 30 and into May 1, hot weather, followed by increasingly strong northeast winds which gusted up to 60 MPH in the North Bay Hills, lead to critical fire weather conditions. Powerlines were felled by the strong winds and this helped contribute to several fires in Napa County.
NORTH BAY MOUNTAINS (ZONE) 5/1/2013 120 Strong Wind 48 0 0 $25,000 EG Newspaper Strong winds caused a 65 foot high oak tree to fall on power lines which started a half acre fire in the nearby grass and brush. Late on April 30 and into May 1, hot weather, followed by increasingly strong northeast winds which gusted up to 60 MPH in the North Bay Hills, lead to critical fire weather conditions. Powerlines were felled by the strong winds and this helped contribute to several fires in Napa County.
NORTH BAY MOUNTAINS (ZONE) 5/1/2013 356 Strong Wind 49 0 0 $5,000 MG RAWS A wind gust was measured at the Hawkeye RAWS, elevation 2024 feet, of 56 MPH. Trees and powerlines were downed in the area with several fires started as a result. Late on April 30 and into May 1, hot weather, followed by increasingly strong northeast winds which gusted up to 60 MPH in the North Bay Hills, lead to critical fire weather conditions. Powerlines were felled by the strong winds and this helped contribute to several fires in Napa County.
NORTH BAY INTERIOR VALLEYS (ZONE) 10/4/2013 900 Strong Wind 35 0 0 $2,000 MG Newspaper In Napa, strong winds caused a tree to fall on a pickup truck. It happened in the area of Solano and Oak Knoll Avenues. The tree shattered the windshield and the branches went into the truck. Strong winds moved through the area during the early morning hours of Friday, October 4. Winds gusted high enough to down trees and powerlines, causing several wildfires to ignite and spread quickly.

The occupant of the car was injured. Strong winds gusted across the greater Bay Area during the evening and overnight hours of November 21 into the early morning of November 22. Numerous trees and power lines were knocked down by the winds, causing power outages for thousands of residents and even sparking wildfires across the North Bay.
NORTH BAY MOUNTAINS (ZONE) 4/6/2017 1811 Strong Wind 39 0 0 $0 MG RAWS RAWS measured gusts of at least 44 mph during time period with peak gust of 45 mph. A potent upper level trough with associated cold front moved through on April 6th causing roadway flooding, gusty winds over both land and sea, as well as strong swells which sunk a Bart Barge over the SF Bay. Post frontal conditions on the 8th brought scattered showers, frigid temperatures, and isolated thunderstorms with small hail.
NORTH BAY INTERIOR VALLEYS (ZONE) 10/8/2017 2238 Strong Wind 40 0 0 $0 MG ASOS Wind gust of 46 mph measured at Napa County Airport. A strong ridge of high pressure building into the Great Basin lead to gusty northerly to northeasterly winds across a portion of our CWA. Existing low relative humidity values  and dry fuels were also observed. As a result, the several fires that developed grew and spread rapidly to become one of the deadliest wildfire outbreaks in state history. Many of the individual fires merged into what became known as the Central LNU Complex and Southern LNU Complex Fires. When all was done over 100,000 acres of land was destroyed, thousands of structures and homes were lost, and 44 people died across Northern California. In addition to the loss of human life, countless pets and livestock were lost in the fires.

A dry cold front moved over the area late on the 15th into early in the morning on the 16th. Strong N/NE winds were observed in the wake of the front over both land and sea. Downed trees and power lines were observed along with multiple water rescues due to high winds.

A combination of strong, gusty offshore winds and dry humidity produced another round of Red Flag conditions across the North and East Bay Hills.  Strongest wind gusts were felt on Mt Diablo and near the Sonoma/Napa/Lake border of around 50 mph. A persistent upper ridge just off the west coast has made for periodic episodes of these gusty dry northerly winds throughout the month.

An upper level system moved through the region on the 27th into the 28th bringing dry and gusty offshore winds to the region. This prompted a Wind Advisory across the higher elevation areas. Winds gusted up to 55 mph in the higher peaks.

NORTH BAY MOUNTAINS (ZONE) 3/5/2019 2200 Strong Wind 39 0 0 $0 MG RAWS Hawkeye RAWS station reported wind gusts between 45 and 50 mph. A weak atmospheric river impacted the region in early march bringing minor roadway flooding and breezy winds to the region. The main moisture plume made landfall to the south of our region, keeping most of the impacts confined to southern California.
